Heartburn Is Not Natural
Something which may not come as a shock to most people is that heartburn and acid reflux are not normal or natural things. Why it is important to mention this in an article? Because a recent survey showed that a high proportion of people thought that heartburn and acid reflux issues were just a fact of life - and there was very little that they could do about it except for treat the symptoms as the presented themselves.
Unfortunately, this is not a good approach and attitude to take. As we have all be told time and time again, when pain or discomfort is present in the body, it means that something is wrong. Pain is the way that our body tells us we need to pay attention to something.
Yet - all to often in today's society, we are too busy to stop and take a look at what is going on. Instead of taking the time to check up on our medical issues, or even things which persist for multiple weeks and months, we simply opt to treat the symptoms ourselves. When it comes to heartburn and acid reflux, the way we usually treat it is by taking a antacid supplement, and hence reversing the cause of the pain.
Any logical person should be able to understand that reversing the cause of the pain is not at all the same as reversing the underlying reason why the pain started in the first place. This is exactly the same scenario for things like headaches. All too often, we just decide that it is not worth putting any effort in to diagnosing and fixing a medical issue - until it is too late.
When things start to get really bad - we seem to finally get the message. Continuing with the idea of acid reflux and heartburn - long term exposure to such things can actually cause a number of dangerous secondary medical problems - such as stomach ulcers, and ulcers of the esophagus. In turn, these things can lead to far more lethal and dangerous things to develop inside the body.
So what is the moral of this article? Well, if nothing else, it is simply to take a little bit of notice with what is happening to you. If you suffer from regular episodes of acid reflux and heartburn, consult your doctor. If you find that you are relying more and more on products which treat the symptoms of acid reflux - perhaps it's time to focus more on prevention than treatment. Ultimately, it's up to you.
